With 440,000 vehicles sold in August, BYD once again claimed the title of China's top automaker by sales

On September 1, BYD announced its production and sales data for August 2026, with monthly sales of new energy vehicles exceeding 440,000 units, once again securing the titles of China's top automaker by sales and top seller of new energy vehicles. At this point, BYD has ranked first in China's monthly new energy vehicle sales for 63 consecutive months. According to sales data released by mainstream automakers, BYD's August new energy vehicle sales led the runner-up by nearly 250,000 units, placing it firmly at the top of the industry by an absolute margin, making its new energy championship thoroughly well deserved.

Among them, BYD's Dynasty and Ocean series continued to maintain stable market performance, with both new and existing models together forming a relatively balanced sales support. In August, the Tang EV exceeded 10,000 units in sales for the second consecutive month, and the newly launched Qin MAX sold more than 10,000 units; the Yuan family sold 84,000 units, the Seal family sold 47,000 units, and all three series of the Sea Lion family achieved monthly sales of over 10,000 units.

At the same time, overseas markets became a standout growth driver for BYD. In August, BYD's overseas sales of passenger vehicles and pickups reached 189,000 units, a year-on-year increase of 134.6%, an increase of more than 100,000 units compared with the same period last year, setting a new overseas sales record for the fifth consecutive month. From January to August, BYD's cumulative overseas sales reached 1.158 million units, already surpassing its full-year overseas sales of 1.0496 million units in 2025. Several models, including the Yuan UP, Dolphin family, and Song PLUS, continued to be BYD's main products in overseas markets.

High-end brands also contributed more sales. In August, Fangchengbao and Denza together sold 58,000 units, more than doubling from the same period last year. Fangchengbao sold 42,000 units, a year-on-year increase of 155.6%, with August monthly sales surpassing brands such as Zeekr, Li Auto, AITO, and Xiaomi, making it the top-selling new forces brand with an average price above 200,000 yuan; Denza sold 16,000 units, a year-on-year increase of 33.4%. With the growth in sales of high-end brands, the quality of BYD's total sales volume is also further improving.

In March this year, BYD released its second-generation blade battery and flash charging technology, which can achieve "a good charge in 5 minutes and a full charge in 9 minutes" at room temperature, with charging time increasing by only 3 minutes at minus 30°C. As of August 28, BYD had built a cumulative total of 10,000 flash charging stations, covering 332 cities. A number of new models equipped with flash charging technology have already gone on sale, and the scope of technological coverage and the replenishment network continue to expand.

It is reported that the Denza Z9S and Dahan have recently begun presales, while the Sea Lion 08, Denza N8L pure electric version, and Fangcheng S series will also go on sale in September. New cars such as the third-generation Tang and Titan 9 are gradually making their appearances. The new vehicles will meet different users' expectations for flash-charging models and provide strong product support for sales growth in the second half of the year.

With the rapid growth of overseas markets, the continued volume ramp-up of high-end brands, and the stable performance of core products, BYD's scale advantage has further expanded. This trend also reflects the continuous improvement of the global market competitiveness of China's new energy vehicle industry.
