It's been almost two years since I bought a Model Y, and I have a lot of feelings about the ownership experience. During the initial period after buying the car, the combined aura of tech features plus minimalist design was indeed fascinating, but ever since I had a child, the shortcomings of the Model Y have been completely exposed, because it has almost no deep thinking about the details of car use. Without exaggeration, for family use, it feels like a cold electronic product, especially after personally experiencing the GAC Honda P7 today, this feeling has become even more obvious. It turns out that a family car that pays attention to details is actually so appealing.

Three-stage door check, opening angle reaches 90 degrees

Common family car doors basically all use a two-stage check design, and the maximum opening angle is not very large, so you have to turn sideways to get in and out. The GAC Honda P7, however, uses a three-stage check, with an opening angle reaching 90 degrees. In actual experience it is larger than the Model Y, and even a burly strong man can get in and out with ease.

For families with elderly parents and young children, this small detail is really especially important. Look at this door opening angle range, plus the GAC Honda P7's open vertical space inside the car, friends who often need to install and remove child seats will definitely understand where the appeal lies.

Comfortable and health-conscious, equipped with suction-type ventilated seats

The front and rear seats of the GAC Honda P7 are equipped with ventilation and heating functions. Some people will say this is not some rare configuration, and the functions are indeed very common, but the small details of the GAC Honda P7 are very particular. This is an issue many people never pay attention to: there are also differences in the air from seat ventilation. Traditional models use a blowing mode, while the GAC Honda P7 uses a suction mode.

What's the difference between these two? To put it plainly, the blowing mode means cold air blows directly, while the GAC Honda P7 sucks from the outside inward. Both can achieve the effect of ventilation and cooling, but in fact, in hot summer weather, the body's pores are open. If it is a seat with blowing mode, the air directly enters the pores, and long-term use is not good for the body. The GAC Honda P7's suction type is much healthier, cooling and also health-conscious.

In addition, the GAC Honda P7 even has more comfortable settings for the air-conditioning modes. It innovatively adds an avoidance mode and a natural sweeping wind mode. Among them, the avoidance mode can intelligently adjust the wind direction to avoid direct air conditioning blowing and improve comfort; the natural sweeping wind realizes automatic swinging of the wind direction, making the air flow more even and natural.

Multiple zones and modes, 16 BOSE speakers throughout the car

16 BOSE speakers throughout the car, including 12 high-performance speakers and 4 music headrest speakers. It is worth mentioning that at the same price point, the GAC Honda P7 is the first model equipped with front-row dual-headrest BOSE audio. It has soundstage position adjustment, allowing the driver's navigation sound and music listening in other positions to not interfere with each other, and each position has its own exclusive soundstage.

This configuration is still very practical. For example, while the driver is on a phone call, it will not affect other occupants continuing to listen to music; because the front row is equipped with headrest audio, even if rear passengers lower the volume, it will not cause damage to sound quality, and they can continue to enjoy music.

Strong power while balancing comfort, neither driving nor riding feels tiring

When some people talk about whether an electric car handles well, they always focus on acceleration performance. In fact, fast acceleration does not equal good handling. Fast acceleration is only the basic operation of an electric car. If we talk only about acceleration, the Model Y is not bad either; but when it comes to the overall sense of handling, the GAC Honda P7 is indeed superior. This was directly reflected after a test drive on the track. It must be said that a Honda with electricity is still a Honda, with handling genes in its bones.

Straight-line acceleration, emergency braking, slalom around poles, and S-curves, the GAC Honda P7's overall performance is more in line with the car-use habits of Chinese families. The most impressive thing is its "control" over power output. If the Model Y is the simple and rough type, then the GAC Honda P7 is the strong yet gentle type. It accelerates quickly, but the output is linear, without a sudden abrupt feeling.

The core difference here is that the GAC Honda P7 has optimized the pitch motion of the vehicle during acceleration and deceleration, making the acceleration G-value transition smooth and also suppressing pitch, which can effectively improve the vehicle's ability to resist nodding or lifting its nose during sudden acceleration and deceleration. The benefit of such tuning is that the driver will not feel the power is discounted, and rear passengers will not feel exhausted or even carsick because of sudden acceleration and deceleration, which is more in line with the setting of a family car.

Of course, the GAC Honda P7's efforts in the details go far beyond what was mentioned above. Everywhere else it also has small thoughtful touches that can move people. For example, it is also equipped with a very large smart 5-level dimming panoramic roof. Just the dimming function alone offers three ways: it can be operated manually on the central control screen, through voice commands, and also through the control panel on the rear doors. A small function, yet it delegates adjustment authority to everyone in the car.

For another example, the smart heating system it carries covers too wide a range: the buttocks and backs of the front and rear seats, the steering wheel, the side leg and knee areas, and even the front and rear side door areas are all taken care of, and all positions are intelligently adjusted for heating. At the same price point, I really have never seen another brand be so thoughtful.

Final thoughts:

In my impression, Honda has always had the image of an honest, straight-A engineering guy, but I never expected that this GAC Honda P7 could grasp the details of life so meticulously. GAC Honda's understanding of the car-use needs of Chinese families is indeed something Tesla cannot learn. Actually, this is not to deny the value of the Model Y, but from the perspective of a family car, the Model Y's style setting is more about pleasing the individual, with much less "home" flavor; while the GAC Honda P7 is meant to satisfy everyone, and all its detailed designs perfectly cater to family users.
