249,800 to 319,800 yuan, buy a mid-to-large MPV.

As soon as the price of the Leapmotor D99 came out, car enthusiast circles were immediately flooded.

You can't blame everyone for being excited. 5280mm vehicle length, 3110mm wheelbase, the pure electric version's CLTC range reaches 700 kilometers, equipped with dual-chamber air suspension, and the second row even gets rotating zero-gravity seats... If you take this spec sheet alone, even compared with the 500,000-yuan-class large MPV Li MEGA, it's not far off.

But what about the Leapmotor D99? Its starting price is 249,800 yuan, directly more than 200,000 cheaper.

Faced with this price, anyone would have doubts: is this truly a great deal, or does it look good on paper but in actual use will cut corners in all kinds of ways?

To be honest, when I first saw the Leapmotor D99's spec sheet, I didn't quite believe it. After all, everyone understands the principle that you get what you pay for. But after I calmed down and went through the new car's configuration from beginning to end, I found that this car really has something going for it, and it's not just sloganeering.

Of course, we won't exaggerate or unfairly criticize. Whether it's worth spending money on, today we'll make it completely clear in one go.

An extended-range MPV with 480km of pure electric range, can you handle that?

What makes the Leapmotor D99 different from other MPVs is that besides the pure electric version, it also offers an extended-range version.

The extended-range version uses a 1.5TD range extender and is paired with a large 80.3kWh battery. CLTC pure electric range is directly pushed to 480 kilometers. Note, this is the figure for the extended-range version!

What does that mean? Most extended-range MPVs on the market today can only do about 150 to 200 kilometers of pure electric range at best. The Leapmotor D99 more than doubles that, making it one of the extended-range MPVs with the longer pure electric range currently available.

For your daily commute, if you drive fifty or sixty kilometers a day, this 480 kilometers of pure electric range is enough for you to go a whole week without burning a single drop of fuel, letting you drive it completely as a pure EV with extremely low usage cost. Then when it's the holidays and you need to take the whole family on an 800-kilometer long trip back home, you don't have to line up at service areas waiting for charging piles either. Just pull into a gas station, fill up, and keep going. Combined range reaches 1,160 kilometers, with the main appeal being zero anxiety.

Put simply, for MPV buyers, the core pain point is wanting both low daily usage cost and no anxiety on long trips. The extended-range version of the Leapmotor D99 is aimed exactly at that. With 480km of pure electric range as a baseline and the rest handled by the engine, this combination punch currently really has no second match at the same price point.

Of course, if your home charging conditions are convenient and you don't want any of the hassle of engine maintenance, then just go directly for the pure electric version. With a 115kWh battery pack, 700 kilometers of CLTC range, and a 1000V high-voltage platform, charging for 15 minutes can add 350 kilometers. This figure is also quite competitive when viewed across the entire pure electric MPV market.

Rotating seats: a gimmick or genuinely practical?

I've seen the hottest discussions online are about these rotating seats. Some people say it's just a gimmick that you won't use twice a year; others say this is the soul of an MPV. Today we won't take sides, we'll just talk about the actual experience.

The second row of the Leapmotor D99 is equipped with dual 124° true zero-gravity rotating seats. Note, both seats can rotate, not just one side.

It gives you three modes:

45° welcome: when the door opens, the seat automatically turns toward you, so you can sit right in without twisting your body and bending down to squeeze in. If there are elderly people in the family with limited mobility, one use is enough to know how thoughtful this design is.

90° sightseeing: drive to a lakeside or seaside, turn the seat, open the door, and this is your private viewing platform.

180° face-to-face: at this point, set up that 745mm×450mm floating large table board in the middle, and four people face each other, playing cards, drinking tea, singing karaoke, doing whatever they want.

You might think 180° face-to-face mode is rarely used, but 45° welcome must be a high-frequency function. Anyone with elderly family members understands that the most dreaded part of getting in is twisting your body and bending down to squeeze in, a posture that is especially miserable for people with bad knees and backs. Now the seat turns over, you sit directly down, then it turns back, and the experience is maxed out.

And Leapmotor was especially clever in equipping the D99 with ABTS integrated seatbelts. This thing is sewn into the seat frame, so whichever direction the seat rotates, the seatbelt follows you in that direction and can always provide effective protection. This turns the rotating seats from "fun to look at" into "actually dare to use," and the cost is not low, but Leapmotor really was willing to put thought into this area.

Besides being able to rotate, the second row's comfort features are also piled on to the max. 270° wrap-around heating (backrest, cushion, and leg rest can all be heated), cushion and backrest ventilation, 10-point massage, 4-way lumbar support, 4-way power leg rest plus foot rest... The foam also uses the same ultra-soft slow-rebound material as the Alphard, and the armrests also add 22.5mm of comfortable foam, so your arms rest on something soft, not hard plastic. The headrest is also 4-way adjustable and can steadily support your head.

Put simply, this time Leapmotor treated the second row like first class, rather than just letting you "sit comfortably."

The third row isn't a tiny bench, and the space magic is played deftly

People who buy MPVs are most afraid that the third row is only fit for a dog. The Leapmotor D99 is 5280mm long, with a 3110mm wheelbase. With dimensions like these, space utilization reaches 91.3%. Cabin depth is 3663mm, second- and third-row legroom adds up to 1929mm, and interior height is 1385mm.

In plain terms: the second row lets you cross your legs, and the third row isn't a tiny bench either. When a 175cm adult sits in, the cushion is long enough, the floor is completely flat, the backrest can still be adjusted, and in a normal sitting position the knees won't hit the front row. You can sit completely comfortably.

The third row's features weren't sloppily done either. Above your head is a MAX giant screen openable panoramic sunroof, with a light-transmitting area of 1.46 square meters and an openable area of 0.66 square meters. Third-row passengers look up and see the sky, not a dark ceiling, so long trips don't feel oppressive.

What's interesting is its seat combination玩法. 11 seat combinations, 5 bed modes.

With the second and third rows linked, it can form a large bed close to 2.5 meters, enough even for camping overnight;

After folding the third row, it can become a nearly 1.8-meter single bed, no problem for lying flat during a lunch break;

The first and second rows can also link into a bed;

After the second row rotates, it can also衍生出 a rotating bed mode;

The third-row backrest can lie flat at 180°, becoming a children's nap mode.

Are you saying these modes are all useful every day? That's definitely unrealistic. But when you go on a road trip or camping, whichever posture you need, it can transform into that posture. That's what's impressive about it. The third-row backrest can also lie flat at 180° into a bed and supports electric flip and sunken storage. When not in use, it sinks down and the trunk space instantly becomes larger.

Is Leapmotor making an MPV actually reliable?

This is a hurdle many people can't get past in their minds.

Leapmotor's SUVs do sell well, but making an MPV is a first. A new brand touching a new category makes people worry about quality control, about minor issues, about resale value. That's all too normal.

That said, today's Leapmotor is no longer the "cheap but unknown" brand it once was. In 2025, full-year deliveries reached 596,555 units, doubling for two consecutive years, and its sales rank among new forces is also near the front. It has also achieved full-year profitability. Previously, the Leapmotor D19 surpassed 15,000 firm orders in 15 days after launch, showing that the market recognizes Leapmotor's product strength. Globalization is also advancing, with 900 outlets already laid out across about 40 international markets, and overseas business has already begun to profit.

But we also have to be honest: selling well doesn't mean making an MPV will definitely work. SUVs and MPVs are two completely different categories, with different requirements for chassis tuning, space layout, and NVH control. Leapmotor proved itself with SUVs, but in this new MPV segment, the market still has to speak.

In addition, the Leapmotor D99 uses dual 8797 chips, with 1280TOPS of computing power, paired with VLA large-model assisted driving. The hardware foundation is fully provided. But some high-level functions still have to wait for subsequent OTA rollouts, and how the actual experience is really needs time to verify.

Some heartfelt words: is it actually worth buying?

After talking so much, let's return to the core question: is the Leapmotor D99 actually worth spending money on?

First, the advantages, very clear:

The extended-range version's 480km pure electric range is rare at the same price. Drive it as a pure EV daily, and on long trips just refuel and go, very well solving MPV users' range anxiety.

The pure electric version's 700km range is also uncommon among models in the same class, and it is also equipped with 1000V high-voltage fast charging, so in the time it takes to drink a cup of coffee it can set off "fully restored."

Some models are equipped with dual-chamber air suspension that can adjust softness and firmness, and adjust height. Put it in P gear, the body automatically lowers, and elderly people and children don't need to lift their legs to climb in.

Rotating seats + ABTS seatbelts are not just for show. 45° welcome is extremely friendly to the elderly, and 180° face-to-face adds infinite possibilities for family travel.

Many space configurations cover both camping and bringing kids along. 11 seat combinations and 5 bed modes. When you actually need them, you'll find this thing is absolutely great.

Enough computing power is provided, and the hardware has redundancy. 1280TOPS of computing power leaves plenty of room for future assisted driving upgrades.

Of course, there are also a few points you need to keep in mind:

This is Leapmotor's first MPV. Chassis tuning, long-term reliability, and resale value all still need further market verification.

Some intelligent assisted driving functions are still on the way. The hardware foundation is very good, but the software experience still has to wait for OTA. If you especially care about high-level assisted driving functions, you can pay attention to the pace of subsequent rollouts.

Final advice:

If your budget is right around 300,000, your family needs a car that can truly take the whole family out comfortably, and you want both the low cost of pure electric driving and don't want to be discouraged by charging piles during holidays, then the Leapmotor D99 is one of the few choices at this price point that can satisfy both needs at the same time.

It is worth mentioning that during the current new car launch period, you can also enjoy limited-time launch benefits worth up to 61,279 yuan: including a deposit expansion gift, optional equipment gift, data gift, warranty gift, and multiple premium services. Judging by the launch benefits, the Leapmotor D99 is still very sincere. Friends who want to enjoy this wave of launch perks need to hurry.

One last question: do you think buying a mid-to-large MPV over 5 meters long with a fully loaded configuration starting at 249,800 yuan is worth it? Do you think you'd actually use this rotating seat and fold-into-bed-everywhere design? Can the Leapmotor D99 become a hit like its SUVs?
