Users vote with their choices, ambassador testifies with real-world testing

How strong a product really is must ultimately be tested on real roads and through user experience. Among pre-sale orders for the ID. ERA 8X, the Max and above versions accounted for more than 80%. Users include longtime Volkswagen owners, young users, and consumers who have experienced multiple new energy vehicles. The actual choices of more and more users also confirm the product strength and driving control experience of the ID. ERA 8X.

ID. ERA 8X brand ambassador Li Zhiting also shared his test-driving impressions at the launch event. Together with SAIC Volkswagen senior chassis tuning engineer and Nürburgring certification official Gero, he completed a number of extreme tests. In extreme scenarios such as high-speed cornering on wet mountain roads, dynamic moose tests through a formation of dump trucks, and drifting on extremely narrow roads, the ID. ERA 8X had precise front-end pointing, a rear end that did not swing out, and a body that steadily gripped the ground, allowing him to "feel the confidence only a race car gives."

Upholding the "golden standard," the industry's first live broadcast "jump-ramp battery pack impact" test

At the launch event, SAIC Volkswagen conducted the industry's first live broadcast of a jump-ramp battery pack impact test. After the same vehicle flew off a ramp, it landed continuously and struck foreign objects such as stones and curbs, and the battery pack showed no smoke or fire. In addition, the event also demonstrated a high-slope rollover test. After the vehicle experienced an impact involving a vertical drop of about 15m, a slope length of 26m, and a maximum 49° slope surface, the doors could still be opened, the eCall emergency call connected normally, and the occupant compartment space was effectively protected.

Strict testing standards run through the entire process of the ID. ERA 8X from development to mass production. The new vehicle completed more than 25,000 hours of bench durability testing, underwent over 1 million kilometers of road testing and 500,000 kilometers of off-site durability testing, and was verified through two winters and two summers of extreme environmental testing, covering multiple test scenarios including high temperature, extreme cold, wet and slippery roads, dynamic moose tests, and narrow-road slalom.

Behind this is SAIC Volkswagen's adherence to the "golden standard." Relying on Volkswagen's 8,000 global standards, SAIC Volkswagen carries quality requirements through the entire development and validation process. Facing the industry trend of increasingly rapid product iteration and launch cadence, SAIC Volkswagen insists on "no rush-built cars," "no specially tuned cars," "no double-standard cars," "no minimum-threshold cars," and "no parts-stacking cars." Development can be accelerated, but validation cannot be omitted; the endpoint is not merely meeting the minimum standard, nor is simply stacking hardware a substitute for whole-vehicle tuning. Instead, it combines the German development system with the real-world vehicle usage scenarios of Chinese users, turning R&D investment into safety, reliability, and driving control quality that users can perceive.

Xingyun intelligent chassis + EA211 golden range extender interpret German driving control strength

The confidence of being "born to handle any road" first comes from solid chassis tuning and driving control strength. After test-driving, many users called the ID. ERA 8X a "handling master." At the hardware level, the ID. ERA 8X adopts front double-wishbone and rear five-link independent suspension, is equipped with a 150mm travel dual-chamber air suspension and continuously variable damping shock absorbers, and features an intelligent predictive magic carpet system that can sense road changes 15 meters ahead. SAIC Volkswagen integrates a century of German tuning experience and 42 years of localized R&D accumulation into product development. Engineers repeatedly validated against the real vehicle usage scenarios of Chinese users, allowing the vehicle to maintain a "resilient, integrated, and stable" driving and riding feel in urban commuting, high-speed cruising, and complex road conditions.

Easy to drive, and it also needs power. The ID. ERA 8X is equipped across the range with the EA211 golden range extender, developed based on the EA211 engine family validated by tens of millions of units in the market and specially optimized for range-extended operating conditions. It achieves a maximum thermal efficiency of 43% and adopts technologies such as VTG variable-geometry turbocharging and 350bar high-pressure direct injection, balancing power generation efficiency and operational smoothness. The new vehicle has a maximum torque of 660N·m, the fastest 0–100 km/h acceleration in 4.6 seconds, WLTC combined fuel consumption at low battery of 5.85L/100km, and can be filled with 92-octane gasoline, achieving "strong at full charge and at low charge alike."

In terms of range, the long-range versions of the ID. ERA 8X are equipped with a 65.2kWh CATL Xiaoyao super range-extended hybrid battery, with a CLTC pure electric range of 451km and a combined range of 1,602km; the entire range comes standard with 800V high-voltage fast charging, enabling a 10% to 80% fast charge in 16 minutes, and supports 3.5kW external discharge, meeting power needs for scenarios such as outdoor camping.

R7 world model standard across the range! Xingyun intelligent assisted driving enters the global first tier

Beyond driving control, the Xingyun intelligent assisted driving system equipped on the ID. ERA 8X further expands the boundaries of experience. The new vehicle is equipped with 26 sets of high-precision perception hardware throughout the vehicle, including a 192-line LiDAR, millimeter-wave radar, and high-precision cameras. At launch, it carries the Momenta R7 world model across the entire range with no additional option required, allowing more users to enjoy an advanced intelligent assisted driving experience, achieving a technological progression from "being able to see" to "being able to foresee," and becoming more aware of attributes, causality, and interaction.

Through deep software-hardware collaboration, the R7 world model brings "physical AI on board" into real vehicle usage scenarios, covering 29 high-frequency complex driving scenarios such as yielding in adjacent parking spaces, three-point turns, avoidance and detouring, and navigating roundabouts. Among them, the ID. ERA 8X is equipped with a D2D (door-to-door) navigation assist function, which can realize the connection between driving and parking from the departure parking space to the destination parking space, and supports automatic passage through gates; when encountering oncoming vehicles on narrow roads, it can improve traffic efficiency through yielding by borrowing space; in scenarios such as extremely narrow parking, RPA remote parking, and memory parking, it further reduces parking difficulty.

German-style refined intelligent home, technology and comfort both online

Intelligent assisted driving makes travel more relaxed, while the "Yunqi smart cabin" extends the technological experience to every occupant. The ultra-clear dual screens for the driver and front passenger and the W-HUD head-up display on the ID. ERA 8X make commonly used information clear at a glance; the original Smart Surface door panel magic screen integrates display into the wood-grain trim, showing art when the screen is off and intelligence when the screen is on, and second-row passengers can directly adjust seats, air conditioning, sunshades, and the refrigerator. Intelligent voice is connected to the Doubao 2.0 large model, supporting linkage across multiple smart scenarios. Together with convenient features such as luxury four-door power doors, operations such as opening doors, adjusting seats, and controlling air conditioning become easier.

In terms of space, the ID. ERA 8X has class-leading dimensions, with a vehicle length of 5,020mm and a wheelbase of 2,970mm. It adopts a large five-seat layout, and the maximum knee room behind the front passenger seat in the second row reaches 433mm, providing a spacious and comfortable riding experience for the whole family. The cabin is equipped with intelligent gentle-wind air conditioning, achieving "coolness in the car without wind on the body"; the seats use Nappa full-grain leather certified to OEKO-TEX® maternal and infant Class 1, and are paired with maternal and infant-grade electromagnetic protection design, further enhancing the comfort and peace of mind of family travel.

In terms of storage and detail design, the ID. ERA 8X fully considers the daily use needs of family users. The vehicle has 34 storage spaces, making it convenient to store various personal items; the 12L dual-door intelligent hot and cold refrigerator can be easily opened from both the front and rear rows and can hold 8 bottles of 550ml drinking water, so cold drinks in summer and hot drinks in winter can travel along. The front center armrest is equipped with a convenient small hook for hanging milk tea, tote bags, and other items; the private power glovebox supports password unlocking to protect the privacy of personal items. In addition, an 80° ultra-large door opening angle also provides more convenience for carrying children in and out of the vehicle and accompanying elders when traveling.
