On the afternoon of August 5, a dramatic scene unfolded at the Tieshangang Service Area in Beihai, Guangxi: a slowly moving BYD Song PLUS EV was struck by direct lightning three times in succession during a thunderstorm, with the strong current forming an obvious discharge phenomenon on the roof of the car. It is understood that the female driver inside the vehicle was unharmed throughout and continued her Guangxi journey as originally planned.

According to a Weibo post by Li Yunfei, general manager of BYD Group's Brand and Public Relations Department, core components such as the three major assemblies—battery, motor, and electronic control—were all intact.

In addition, BYD after-sales personnel also inspected the vehicle as soon as possible and found that the exterior structure, all vehicle glass, tires, and interior were intact, with only two lightning scorch marks left on the roof. At present, the BYD after-sales team has activated a dedicated service channel to assist the owner with vehicle inspection and repair.

This incident in Beihai, Guangxi, in which the Song PLUS EV withstood three consecutive lightning strikes and safeguarded the driver's safety, once again confirms BYD's long-held principle that "safety is the greatest luxury of an electric vehicle."
When encountering a thunderstorm, it is possible to be protected from lightning inside a car. If the car is struck by lightning while driving, be sure not to get out hastily to check the vehicle's condition. Wait until the thunderstorm has passed before getting out. Driving safety must be taken seriously.
