On May 22, Voyah officially launched a new full-size SUV, the Taishan X8. The new vehicle is offered in five configuration versions, with plug-in hybrid and pure electric powertrain options, at an official guide price of 292,900 to 379,900 yuan, with the actual starting price after limited-time benefits being 282,900 yuan.

The Taishan X8 differentiates itself from the previously launched six-seat Taishan model by adopting a five-seat layout, with a body length of 5,200 mm and a wheelbase of 3,090 mm. After removing the third row, rear passenger space and trunk storage capacity have become the focus of this vehicle. The rear row features two power-adjustable seats with heating, ventilation, and massage functions; when the rear seats are folded down, they form a flat bed surface and expand the regular 1,148-liter trunk to 2,361 liters.

In terms of power, the plug-in hybrid version is equipped with a 1.5T engine and dual electric motors, a 65 kWh battery capacity, a maximum CLTC pure electric range of 370 km, and a maximum combined range of 1,506 km with a full tank and full charge. The pure electric version features a 120 kWh battery pack and a maximum CLTC range of 727 km. Both powertrains are based on an 800-volt platform and support 5C fast charging.

In the chassis section, the vehicle is equipped with a three-chamber air suspension and an EDC damping system, with adjustable suspension height over a range of 105 mm. It also features rear-wheel steering, with a minimum turning radius of 5.4 meters. In terms of intelligent driving, the vehicle is equipped with 4 lidar units (including one 896-line lidar) as well as multiple millimeter-wave radars and cameras, and adopts the Huawei Qiankun ADS intelligent driving system.

Dada commentary:

Judging from its pricing and equipment, the Taishan X8 targets the 300,000-yuan-class large five-seat SUV market. Compared with the commonly seen six-seat or seven-seat models on the market, the large five-seat layout is itself a relatively niche category. Voyah uses this vehicle to fill the gap in its lineup for a five-seat flagship, while also bringing configurations such as air suspension, rear-wheel steering, and advanced intelligent driving—features that previously appeared more often on higher-priced models—into the 300,000-yuan range. As for how well the market will accept it, that will still depend on actual deliveries and user feedback going forward.
