Recently, official information from Mercedes-AMG shows that its mid-size performance SUV will undergo a key upgrade, and the all-new GLC 53 4MATIC+ will be officially launched on October 29. The biggest change in the new car lies in the comprehensive renewal of the powertrain, no longer using the previous 2.0T four-cylinder engine, but instead adopting a more powerful 3.0T inline-six turbocharged engine. From the on-paper data, this new engine has a maximum power of 455 horsepower and a peak torque of 600 N·m.

By comparison, the currently on-sale AMG GLC 43 4MATIC is equipped with a 2.0T engine, with a maximum power of 421 horsepower and a peak torque of 500 N·m. The new model has clearly improved in both power and torque, and its performance positioning has also risen accordingly.

This 3.0T inline-six engine is not a traditional "large-displacement spec-stacking" unit, but rather incorporates hybrid assistance technology. It is simultaneously equipped with a 7.5 kW electric auxiliary compressor and a traditional exhaust-gas turbocharger, balancing low-speed response and high-speed output. In overboost mode, the system can temporarily increase peak torque to 640 N·m within 10 seconds, providing a more abundant power reserve for instant acceleration. In addition, the new car is also equipped with an ISG integrated starter motor, which can provide 17 kW of power and 205 N·m of torque assistance. On the one hand, the presence of the ISG improves the sensitivity of throttle response, making power delivery more immediate; on the other hand, it can also assist in doing work under certain conditions and optimize fuel economy. Matched with this powertrain is a 9-speed automatic manual transmission, ensuring smooth and efficient power transfer.

In terms of exterior, the GLC 53 4MATIC+ basically continues the overall design language of the currently on-sale model, with adjustments mainly made in the details, and it also offers a variety of all-new exterior and interior packages. As an AMG model, the new car further strengthens the creation of a sporty atmosphere to highlight its genuine AMG performance genes and dynamic aesthetics, satisfying consumers' expectations for both performance and appearance. As a performance SUV, the chassis configuration is equally critical. The new car will be equipped with the AMG-specific dynamic handling system, AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive, and the AMG RIDECONTROL variable damping suspension system, working in coordination across three dimensions: handling response, drive distribution, and chassis stiffness adjustment, balancing everyday comfort and aggressive driving. It is worth mentioning that the new car offers the optional AMG DYNAMIC PLUS package. Once unlocked, it provides RACE mode, active engine mounts, an electronically controlled rear-axle limited-slip differential, and for the first time introduces Drift Mode in an AMG SUV model. This means that this mid-size SUV can not only provide more pure driving pleasure on the track, but also bring more playability to players who enjoy drifting, further narrowing the experience gap between performance SUVs and pure performance cars.

From the perspective of product cadence, the launch of the GLC 53 4MATIC+ fills the performance gap in the AMG GLC lineup between the 43 and 63, and also brings the model line's powertrain specifications more in line with higher tiers. For consumers who value power performance while also hoping to balance SUV practical space and AMG performance genes, the new car offers a more balanced choice. At present, the official has not yet announced the final configuration details, and the specific model configuration and price still need to be based on the information announced at the October 29 launch event. Considering the starting price of the current AMG GLC 43 4MATIC, the pricing of the new 53 model has also become a focus of market attention. As the launch date approaches, what kind of answer this performance SUV with a swapped-in six-cylinder powertrain will deliver is worth watching.
